Dissertation Writing Tutorial

If you have struggled on writing a dissertation all by yourself in the past then here are some of the top things that you should know about doing so.

Brainstorming sessions

Before you do anything else you need to execute a high quality brainstorming sessions that can make a very big difference to the way that you do things. Brainstorming sessions are perfect for large projects because they allow you to plan ahead of time. So for example if you need to understand the timeline that you are going to stick to then you can create that using the brainstorming sessions.

Just be aware of the fact that the brainstorming session is only there to give you a plan, and if it needs to be changed then you can do so. There is no point in sticking to something that is not working very well so do keep that in mind.

Take the editing seriously

Getting off to the races and getting the first draft finished as quickly as possible will only be to your advantage. You need to know that if you are going to create a great piece of work then editing is a big part of it. The quicker you are bale to finish the first draft the more time you’ll have to edit your work.

The process of editing is not that hard and you just need to read the content very slowly. If something looks fishy then investigate it and try to find a fix. The process of doing this can turn an average piece of work into something that deserves the highest of grades so do keep that in mind whilst you are working on your project. You’ll see that editing can also be kind of fun, because it is far less stressful than the writing phase is.

Don’t run out of time

One of the worst things that you can do on your project is plan the time it takes to complete your dissertation poorly. This will in turn make you stay up nights in order to get the work done and that is the last thing that you want. Ideally you should ensure that you are able to get the work done fast so that there is time left at the end to fix mistakes.

Use a table of contents

One of the best ways to get organized early on is to create a table of contents and that does not need to be done manually. In most cases your word processing software will have an automatic feature that enables the creation of a table of contents. Then when you add sections to the work they will be incorporated into the appropriate place. It is one of the easiest ways of doing it and does not need to be done manually like some students attempt to do every year.

Missing the deadline will in most cases have consequences such as not getting the grade you are supposed to get. Also understand that when you have personal trouble in your life then the professor might be able to grant you an extension on your project deadline, but that is only in some cases and it all depends on how charitable your professor feels on any given day.
